Born in Munich, Germany, I came to the U.S. as an international student in 1999, and have written both in English and German since. I hold a BA (UNC Chapel Hill), an MALS (Duke University) and am currently a PhD candidate in German Studies (Duke University).

I am endlessly curious about the human psyche and in particular about identity formation and retention: In my narrative non-fiction work, I often explore our joys and struggles, our strengths and shortcomings,  and how they make us into who we are as thinking, existing and mediating beings. Narrative non-fiction topics of interest therefore include philosophy, culture and translation. In my research, I am interested language theory and specifically in the effects of Otherness/Othering on language in Modernist German poetry.

My books and articles have been published internationally and in a variety of languages.
